1 Pet Postcard = 1 Bowl of Food for Rescue
Rescue homes and shelters help take care of homeless pets, but who helps take care of rescue shelters? In most cases they rely on private donations and meager funding to stay in operation. One way we can help is by donating pet food. And thanks to Nikki Moustaki of The Pet Postcard Project, all we need to do is create and send a postcard!
Act Now!
For every postcard sent, 1 bowl or 1 pound of dog food will be donated to rescue shelters. Here’s how to create your postcard:
- Take a great photo of your dog(s) or cat(s).
Or, take photos of homeless pets at a shelter. - Add words.
(You can do this on the computer, or even by hand and pasting it onto the printed photo) The sentiment must be one of these categories: advice, confessions/secrets, wishes from or to the pet, or “You know you love your dog/cat when…” - Print the postcard
in approximately 4 x 6 inch size.
Regular paper is just fine. - Mail in an envelope to:

How it Works
Why it Matters
Some pets brought to shelters have been homeless for long periods of time, found wandering the streets foraging for food. Others are handed over due to family transitions or unavoidable circumstances at home. Sadly, others are removed from abusive or hoarding situations. The one thing in common—while waiting for that loving, stable forever home, they all depend upon the shelter to meet their needs.
Unfortunately, most shelters are lacking adequate funding and rely on private donations to keep afloat. In today’s rocky economy, not only is it more difficult for people to continue donating, but also more animals are being surrendered to shelters, as people in dire circumstances find they can no longer afford to keep their pets. Many shelters are full to capacity.
With our help, providing adequate, nutritious food for homeless pets can be a little easier. I made a postcard (below) and it took only a few minutes and a little creativity. I’m sure you can come up with some awesome ideas too!
