The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is stampeding thousands of wild American horses from protected lands, zeroing out thousands in Nevada and California. These lands are protected by the Wild Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, yet the deadly mustang roundups continue, killing up to 10% of the herd often as a result of broken legs, necks and dehydration. BLM claims they aren’t managing herd areas for sheep and cattle ranchers who pay to lease land and water resources, yet they continue to fence off water and displace the horses they are required to protect. We must speak out now as the summer roundups continue.

• Call the White House Switchboard at (202) 456-1111 and politely tell the President to halt wild horse roundups. Tell the operator that you are a voter and will be watching what the Administration does on this issue. Keep trying if the line is busy!

More roundups are scheduled starting as soon as August 11th. ”The 2,100 horses and additional 200 burros to be gathered are the most among more than two dozen roundups that began last October and are to continue through September as part of BLM’s plan to cull about 12,000 of 38,000 mustangs and burros from herds roaming 10 Western states.
