Why It Matters

Puppy mill dogs overwhelm dog rescue organizations. The dogs coming out of these operations are often malnourished, under-socialized and difficult to adopt out. Help take the burden off of dog rescue organizations by demanding that the USDA review their rule on federal inspections of breeding operations.

According to the ASPCA:

Right now, the USDA considers any commercial dog breeder who sells puppies directly to the public, including over the Internet, a “pet store” and exempts them from federal oversight—no matter how large casino spiele or abusive their breeding operation is. As a result, thousands of dogs are bred and kept in filthy, inhumane conditions with no basic welfare standards. This antiquated view of what constitutes a pet store urgently needs updating!

You can help the ASPCA by adding your voice to the cause during this public comment period. This is a critical time because it gives you the opportunity to submit your comments directly to the USDA and affect the outcome of their consideration of this rule.
