No Performance for Elephants
Performing animals are often treated cruelly so they behave as desired for our entertainment. Tai, star of the movie Water for Elephants, was trained using electric shocks. Stars of the Santa Ana Zoo’s elephant rides are trained with bull hooks. Appalling ill treatment of Anne, an aging elephant with a British circus, has also been documented.

Why it Matters
Many trainers, circuses and filmmakers deny or justify the existence of abuse and elephants continue to suffer at their hands. Ironically, painful training methods were performed on Tai, Water for Elephants’ fictionally abused circus elephant. Although producers and crew emphasized their careful treatment of Tai, she was poorly treated prior by her supplier, Have Trunk Will Travel.
Animal Defenders International recently released video from an ongoing investigation showing inhumane treatment of performing elephants, including Tai, using metal bull hooks, stun guns that deliver electric shocks, and beatings. (Read ADI’s full article.) ADI President Jan Creamer said in a website statement:
“… the more we saw the repeated assertions that this elephant has been treated with love and affection and never been abused, we realized that we had to get the truth out. The public, the stars and the filmmakers have been duped. This poor elephant was trained to do the very tricks you see in the film by being given electric shocks.”

Unless we refuse to support all venues that exploit animals, elephants will continue to be inhumanely treated for profit and our entertainment. Our voices do matter. Anne, the performing British circus elephant, has been allowed to retire after widespread outrage over videos revealing her horrendous treatment.

Please, please, please END this cruelty!
There is absolutely no reason for these animals to be used for any purpose in this day and age. It is time that we start saving all our great animals, protect their habitat and protect them! STOP the abuse!!!
Boycott all venues that profit from the suffering of animals. The absence of your money speaks most loudly to these people.
The abuse that these precious animal have to go through in there life it’s so horrifying and cruel that there are no words to describe it. Elephants don’t deserve to be treated like this; in fact no animal deserves to be treated like this. and the fact that there being abused like this for our entertainment I don’t know how anyone knowing what these gentle, beautiful and amazing animal go through could still sit there and enjoy a show. It’s absolutely cruel and I wish, hope, and pray to God that some one will PLEASE STOP this abuse and that all elephants and other animals that are being treated like this will finally one day be free and that they will be as happy as an Elephant can be!!! !!! so please stop this please think of them wouldnt you want to see them living a happy life istead could you not find another way to make money and entertainment without using any animal. they deserve to be happy. so please look the Elephants in the eye and give it a hard thought and dont tell me that you dont see how sad they are and the pain that there in because i know you can so PLEASE HELP THEM PLEASE STOP THIS I know deep down you want to so doit stop the cruelty make them Happy!!!!!!

Why the elephants and other animals are so indefense about the cruelty of humans. Please no more cruelty with animals.
leave wildanimals out of entertainment and stop abusing them in training…you do not have to do that…I have been a trainer in animals and work in the profession….you are abusing not training…stop now!!
Elephants are not for human entertainment…..that includes rides!!!!!!!!!!! They should not be in zoo compounds either!!!

If you find joy in the suffering of another living thing then there is something seriously wrong with you. It is time that we take responsibility for what we do even if it is just going to a movie that supports this kind of abuse. We the consumers have the power to stop this. Let’s use this power to change the World.
Because animals have no voice does not mean that they are ours to exploit and abuse. This barbaric practice is wrong in every way and must stop!
