Operation: Give Big Dogs a Break

More and more hotels are allowing dogs, but the majority have weight restrictions – some as low as 20 pounds. That means a lot of family dogs, including the always popular labs, retrievers, and even beagles aren’t allowed to go along on the family vacation.

GoPetFriendly.com and AndASmallDog.com have teamed up to encourage hotels to lift their weight restrictions – after all, big dogs deserve vacations, too!

ACT NOW!

The initial goal is to reach 1,000 petition signatures.

    WHY IT MATTERS

We believe size should not be a factor in deciding which pets are appropriate hotel guests. Other factors, such as training, temperament and level of socialization are far more indicative of a well-behaved pet. By instituting alternative policies, such as cleaning charges and crating requirements, hotels can welcome large dogs and avoid the undesirable outcomes their weight restrictions are designed to prevent.

    A NOTE FROM AMY BURKERT

At GoPetFriendly.com we encourage – and make it easy – to plan trips that include the whole family. Because we travel extensively with our big dogs, we also know how difficult it can be to locate hotels where large dogs are welcome.

We are hoping to encourage hotels to remove their weight restrictions and remove the obstacles families encounter when including their big dogs in their travel plans.

  • I’m going to go sign the petition now. It’s important to be able to travel with our dogs, no matter the size. Kelly is only 35 lbs, but according to some hotels’ regulations, she’d be considered too big.

I have two wonderful greyhounds who do great in hotels, but it is extremely frustrating to find affordable hotels who will allow them.

  • Usually people who travel with their pets have well behaved pets. America is so far behind Europe in becoming a pet friendly country. In Europe, we could bring our big dog to hotels and restaurants.

I have 2 lap dogs that sadly are German Shepherds. I would love to take them with me but …….
