Rescue Owners are Rockin’!

Shauna and her rescue, "Kayloo"
Shauna Stewart from FidoandWino.com started Rescue Owners are Rockin’ (also known as the R.O.A.R. Squad) to help people understand that rescue animals are so much more than “broken” cats and dogs in need of homes. By sharing the inspirational stories of once homeless pets and their new people, Shauna is hoping to make adopting THE coolest thing around and end the horrors of puppy mills.
ACT NOW
Read and share the R.O.A.R. Squad stories with everyone you know!
If you have a great rescue story to share, send Shauna an email with the following:
- 2-4 photos of you/the owner and your rescue pet (you/the owner must be in at least one picture too!)
- Please provide the following info (the closer your info is to this format, the faster I can get your post up):
- Your name / you & your partners names
- Your pet’s name(s)
- A bit about you/you & your partner
- Your pet’s breed(s)
- Your pet’s age(s)
- Rescue/shelter name and circumstances around how you came to adopt your pet (optional)
- Rescue/shelter website link
- Funny/interesting tidbits
- Links to your blog/website, if you have one
- Your state/province
By April 2011, Shauna’s goal is to have featured a story from at least one rescue owner from every state in the US and at least one rescue owner from every province and territory in Canada.
WHY IT MATTERS
Every day thousands of people decide to add a pet to their home. And every day people unwittingly support puppy mills by purchasing their pets from pet stores or online – unknowingly keeping puppy mills in business by buying their “product.” If we want to close puppy mills down, we need to eliminate the demand for their products, and that is easily accomplished by adopting.

Dayna & her rescue, "Sparkles"
A Note from Shauna
I want US to put puppy mills out of business.
I want people’s very first thought when they decide to get a pet to be to head to their nearest shelter/rescue organization. I want people to KNOW that 9 times out of 10 the animals in pet stores are from puppy mills and to NOT EVEN DREAM of supporting such unethical treatment of animals.
I want YOU AND I to make adopting a rescue animal THE hippest thing on the block.
I want little girls and little boys to BEG their parents to take them to the SPCA. I want guys who are looking for a Chic Magnet (read: cute dog) to KNOW that the HOTTEST side kick in town comes from a rescue organization (with the understanding that “hot” also equals “forever”). I want young women in their heels and their Prada to know that the MOST FABULOUS accessory around is not an accessory at all but a goofy being with feelings and personality … and they are waiting at the local shelter.
BtC4animals.com never asks you to spend a cent, just a few minutes of your time.
It’s the greatest gift you can give.

I too am a proud member of the R. O. A. R. Squad, Peggy! I love what Shauna is doing. Rescue IS cool. Celebrating that fact and encouraging more people to do so is the best way to combat puppy mills. Rock on, Shauna!
Shauna, great work, congrats!
Here is a great rescue story that you can post if you like.

This is such a great idea! More people should adopt and give animals out there a chance at having a great home. What a fun way to show others how wonderful it is to adopt
We will have to take a family photo this weekend to send to Shauna. Go R.O.A.R squad!
@Blanket- It is fabulous having you guys on the Squad!
